Simon instructed by Director of Human Rights Proceedings to act for family caregivers and disabled family members

Simon is acting on instructions from the Director of Human Rights Proceedings for 13 plaintiffs bringing a claim against the Ministry of Health alleging discrimination on the grounds of family status. The plaintiffs are parents and spouses of disabled family members and the disabled family members themselves. The plaintiffs allege that the Ministry of Health discriminated against them by refusing to pay the family caregivers for the care services that otherwise would have been provided by contractors paid by the Ministry. The case is due to be heard in the Auckland High Court in October 2018.
